commit sha 4b5d6ce47a3deada860a1637b4575c1664be5ea7

feat(remap transform): Emitting multiple events (#7267) Add support to the `remap` transform to emit multiple events by setting `.` to an array. Signed-off-by: Jesse Szwedko <jesse@szwedko.me>

enhancement(remap): Add parse_klog function (#7349) Closes: #6793 This is very similar to parse_glog but I think a separate function is still prudent in-case the continue to diverge. The biggeste differences are just spacing and the fact that timestamps don't have a year in them. Signed-off-by: Jesse Szwedko <jesse@szwedko.me>

commit sha 9b5d3b6efcf88c8dbe5901bee8ecb91149474096

fix(external docs): Fix rendering of buffers/batches sections (#7305) It was previously rendering ERB which appears directly in the docs output. Instead, I do the equivalent string interpolation here in cue. I'm curious if there is a better way to set `_parameter` than I found which has a bunch of conditions due to the lack of an `else` clause. I also fixed an issue that the `kafka` sink supports both `max_events` and `max_bytes` but has a default of `null`. I updated the sink level cue definition to let these keys be optional rather than assuming `null` means unsupported. Signed-off-by: Jesse Szwedko <jesse@szwedko.me>

commit sha 848d9226138b7be6f592a22f35ccd1a51d545324

fix(buffers): Work around a LevelDB mechanism mismatch (#7398) * Work around a LevelDB mechanism mismatch This commit moves the computation of the byte size of a disk buffer into a separate function with a separate, temporary LevelDB handle. When we iterate LevelDB it maps up to 1000 LDB files into vector's address space, which is fine for a database but imposes a large memory burden on vector users. See https://github.com/google/leveldb/issues/866 for details. Unfortunately LevelDB is not configurable in this regard without forking their code base and so we are temporarily working around the issue, kind of. The pattern will be this. At startup vector will scan each of its LDB files for each disk buffer (see #7380) and map up to 1000 LDB files into vector's address space, consuming however much memory to do this. Once `db_initial_size` returns the LevelDB handle will drop and each file will be unmapped, reducing vector's overall memory use. This will NOT resolve OOM issues for our memory constrained users but it WILL reduce vector's post-startup memory burden, at least until LevelDB maps in more LDB files which will happen gradually. chore: Migrate `buffers` into vector-core (#7400) * Migrate `buffers` into vector-core This commit migrates `buffers` into vector-core. Resolves #7399. This will allow us to experiment more quickly with resolutions to #7246. I would like to see `buffers` as a sub-package to `vector-core` which will mean moving `Event` et al around, so I intend to do that in a follow-up commit as it'd be quite a dramatic change. Divvy up `vector-core` into crates

Ah, this has proved to be an interesting challenge. Today our buffers type is implicitly tied up with Event, so a split of core into separate workspace members leaves a dependency on Event from a sub-package. Not... ideal. Also, we today use the protobuf version of Event to serialize, so we can't just easily convert buffers to be generic on some type T because there's no way for us to express that the type must be ser/de in protobuf. We also, further, can't convert the existing disk buffer to ser/de Event because that will break any existing user's disk buffers, a no-no.

The ultimate goal of this work is to get in a better position to do something about our use of leveldb -- #7380 and #7246 for example. We can probably awkwardly force a division into the core package to get a split but not in a way that meaningfully moves us toward this goal. As of #7400 we still have the top-level package actually creating buffer instances through BufferConfig, so making an abstract interface for "buffers" that is not generic and not in a sub-package strikes me as moving closer to our end aim. Once core can actually create a buffer we'll be able to benchmark buffers in core, which is not possible today.

Considering the upgrade path for end users we're a little pinned down with regard to the disk buffer as-is. @lukesteensen have we ever broken compatibility in the disk buffer and, if so, what's the process been like there for the users?

enhancement(ci): support in helm vector-agent to specify command

@spencergilbert Yes it's probably better to add support for both cmd and args, with valid default values. Just updating the command worked. I didn't really test the helm chart thus, tested by changing the daemonset manually.

The daemonset I used is the following:

spec:
  minReadySeconds: 1
  revisionHistoryLimit: 10
  selector:
    matchLabels:
      app.kubernetes.io/instance: xxx
      app.kubernetes.io/name: vector-agent
  template:
    metadata:
      creationTimestamp: null
      labels:
        app.kubernetes.io/instance: xxx
        app.kubernetes.io/name: vector-agent
        vector.dev/exclude: "true"
    spec:
      containers:
      - args:
        - --config
        - /etc/vector/*.toml
        command:
        - /usr/bin/vector

enhancement(ci): support in helm vector-agent to specify command

@martinlevesque this looks fine and works - but I'm wondering if we need to add support to customize the args as well? Does just updating the command work for you? I'm having some trouble locally - what does your working config look like?

Reviewers
enhancement(remap): add match_any function

This is currently built on top of #7250 to take advantage of some of @jszwedko additions there. It's also not documented and has one unwrap that needs removed, but I'm opening it in this state to get some feedback since it's my first real work with VRL.

The goal here is to optimize the case of checking against multiple regexes. Instead of match(.foo, ...) || match(.foo, ...) || ..., you can simply pass an array of patterns that are compiled to a RegexSet and checked efficiently in one pass. This is also more ergonomic than asking users to combine patterns manually.

`throttle` transform

Tkz for your time and support. This is very important in environment multi-tenant. I alread use this approach with fluentd in logs context, and it will be very welcome in metrics context.

commit sha 848d9226138b7be6f592a22f35ccd1a51d545324

fix(buffers): Work around a LevelDB mechanism mismatch (#7398) * Work around a LevelDB mechanism mismatch This commit moves the computation of the byte size of a disk buffer into a separate function with a separate, temporary LevelDB handle. This will NOT resolve OOM issues for our memory constrained users but it WILL reduce vector's post-startup memory burden, at least until LevelDB maps in more LDB files which will happen gradually. enhancement(sinks): Add acknowledgements support to more HTTP logs sinks

I'll note that 90% of this PR, both in terms of code generated and time spent, is entirely in the tests. The core change to each sink, given the background support, is this simple change in fn encode_event, which extracts the EventMetadata from a log and adds it to the EncodedEvent return value: https://github.com/timberio/vector/blob/b1c1426da1c5986a7b64a8fc80b27874cb37f516/src/sinks/azure_monitor_logs.rs#L178

Subcommand to output config as DOT file

We'd like this feature to generate a nice visualization of our topology for documentation. We currently occasionally do this by hand - but it would be great to be able to include visualization as a CI step.
