issue commenttheiceshelf/firn

Question: how customizable are sites built with firn intended to be?

Hi @yosevu - this is a good question. The short answer is - no, this is not currently possible. Long answer - it might be in a future release. For now, Firn is meant to ship a static site without any JS. However, I intend to investigate attaching either the parsed org content or a munged version of it that can be made accessible to a (probably) ClojureScript layer in the future. This would be useful for building charts, graphic connections between notes, and possible higher-level interactions like you mentioned. Ideally, I'd like to leave most of that up the user. Either way, I'll be thinking about it for a few weeks as I finish other core features.

Search uses anchor in URL

From a first glance at this code it looks like we are getting the nearest anchor and making the results jump to that heading. It sounds like if we remove this code, a search result would then... jump directly to the found text?

[WIP] explore algolia search options

Nice! This should help index more content.

The last time a search issue was reported (https://github.com/circleci/circleci-docs/issues/4036) I tried indexing tables and the reported size of the records exceeded the quota we are able to upload. I believe it was mostly due to the configuration reference but also probably some other documents that have many tables. It might be worth logging into Alogolia and checking on their dashboard to make sure everything is looking okay.

Changes for Ghost 2.0

This PR comes with minimal changes for being able to use the theme with Ghost 2.0

It should help to resolve #7 and #8.

It includes the results of npm update and npm init for completeness of package.json, and adds to it new configuration keys for Ghost.

Community ?

Hi @teesloane !

Super boulot sur la future release, le nouveau style css est très bien :)

Switch to english. Don't know if you plan to create a community channel (discord like doom-emacs, discourse, matrix or anything else on the vast chat app universe ...) but that could be a good idea to discuss and exchange idea/things about firn !!

For example, don't know if you see the org parser of organice, also usable in clojure : https://github.com/200ok-ch/org-parser

Merci @reyman, et merci pour l'idée!

I use Discord occasionally, so I setup a server; please join and say hello! Would love to chat about Firn, projects, or whatever.

As for Organice's parser - I did a brief evaluation of it, but by that time I was already invested with the syntax tree created by Organize -- but who knows -- maybe I'll be able to go full Clojure someday soon! See you on the chat!

Alternative suggestion for Python dependency caching approach

The current recommended approach requires:

  1. a set of sudo chown commands to be executed in order to restore, which feels heavy-handed.
  2. pipenv to be installed, which is handy because it's a great tool, but still not the de factor package manager for Python, I think.

I would like to suggest an alternative approach. See my upcoming PR for details.

Automated documentation website as preview of firn capacity ?

Hi @teesloane !

This is an idea copy/pasted from ox hugo website, i think that could be a good way to demonstrate capacity of Firn :

  • a documentation website generated with Firn like https://ox-hugo.scripter.co/
  • a debug/test website for issue like https://ox-hugo.scripter.co/test/

I think that could be interesting because a noob user in org or firn could see the template/structure of org file needed to generate this site.

Out of the box html layout less minimalist/raw ?

Hi @teesloane !

The first time i build my org folder with firn, and i open the result, i'm very surprised by the really minimalist/raw html output.

I think there is some ambiguity with the link to your personnal firn website "theiceshelf" (https://wiki.theiceshelf.com/firn), because future user could be surprised by the fact that this is not the real output of Firn out-of-the-box.

This is probably on roadmap, but a default layout less raw that actual will probably attract more user :)

Thanks for your work :+1:

change url for adding ssh key to circleci project

Hey! Thanks for making this suggestion. We have since merged in a change that displays the following text, which is a bit simpler / clearer:

  1. Go to your project settings, click on SSH Keys, and "Add SSH key", and add the key you created in step 1. In the "Hostname" field, enter "github.com", and press the submit button.

Add an alternative save/restore cache approach

Hi there! Thanks for suggesting some changes. While I agree with your changes, I do have to mention the following:

  • if we make this change, we will also have to change the caching section above, which at that point, would be a lot of duplication of content.
  • Our python sample application is in the process of being re-written to make use of orbs, so most of this content will be made redundant shortly.

Thanks for taking the time to contribute but for the above reasons I will be closing this PR.

PR merged circleci/circleci-docs

docs: pipeline.parameters are always plural

Description

Reasons

Because I want to help others to avoid having problems and the example configs should absolutely be working
