Ask questionsVery high memory usage in some cases

Relevant versions

  • postgres_exporter version: 0.5.1
  • os: CentOS 7

Issue Description

I've been running this exporter on many Postgres instances and I've had cases where it eventually reached 4GB+ of mem and almost 100% CPU usage of 6 cores. In this specific case, the postgres_exporter is running on a Postgres host which does have very high query volumes at time, and some queries can be large. I'm just trying to determine if this is something that can normally occur, or if it's a potential memory leak?

If it's a valid behavior, then I'd like to understand in better details the exact specifics to the high mem and CPU usage? Thanks for your help.

also noticing a slow memory leak, after a few weeks of running the exporter, it slowly chews up all the available ram observed, using v0.7.0 Screen Shot 2020-11-17 at 5 11 24 PM the red line is container memory use over 2 weeks. It was consuming over 5GB of ram before I killed it.

edit: looks like the container could not connect to postgres. i.e. the exporter is leaking memory, if it can't connect to postgres

useful!
