Add Forest Health Monitoring historical dataset
From 1991 to 1999 the USDA collected information of individual tree crown and health for trees in the FIA. The data is stored in .csv files, but there are some challenges for cleaning and harmonizing it.
A description of the dataset can be found here: https://www.fs.fed.us/foresthealth/protecting-forest/forest-health-monitoring/ Data can be found here: https://www.fia.fs.fed.us/tools-data/other_data/index.php

Global river density, seasonal and surface water occurrence and upstream area
From the same source of soil data (www.OpenLandMap.org) there is a dataset of global density of rivers and upstream area that can be used to infer the effect of hydrology on forest dynamics and diversity at scale.
Here is the link to the derived dataset: Global river density, seasonal and surface water occurrence and upstream area: https://zenodo.org/record/3355007

Add fire and management history data
There are many geospatial layers collected and managed by Forest Service programs available in a map service here: https://data.fs.usda.gov/geodata/edw/datasets.php
These data are shapefiles and contain many different kind of information. The most useful for ongoing projects, right now, are those containing fire occurrence, prescribed fire management, and generally silviculture and forest cut managements.

I think git hooks can be used to add instructions to the default commit message, and also to check that a tag is included in a commit message. Might not be a big deal for folks who are already regularly updating PortalData, but a useful feature to include in livedat?
