it was in my project https://github.com/xmlking/micro-apps (gradle :apps:entity-service:bootRun) I took your example to add GCP logging to my sub-project. the above setting seems working as expected now. 👍🏽 Thanks for showcasing GCP integration example.

micrometer won't respect spring.cloud.gcp.core.enabled: false

I don't understand why they should be linked. Isn't it possible for non GCP users to use stackdriver?

In your base application.yml you could link them yourself:

# in application.yml
management.metrics.export.stackdriver.enabled: ${spring.cloud.gcp.core.enabled:false}
# in application-local.yml
spring.cloud.gcp.core.enabled: false

it works but ugly. wish micrometer also adopt this flag like rest of GCP liberties. i.e., spring.cloud.gcp.core.enabled: false

management won't respect spring.cloud.gcp.core.enabled: false

it would be nice to switch off GCP requirements (provide GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS, PROJECT_ID etc) when running spring boot service locally on laptop. Spring Cloud GCP recommend setting spring.cloud.gcp.core.enabled: false to switch off all GCP features(logging , metrics, tracing, PubSub ...) while running locally. I assume above one flag is better to switch on/off all GCP features then each library that provide intimation with GCP using its own flag. what I am asking is to make it easy for developers to disable all GCP beans with one flag.

Got this workaround

add following to application.yml

spring.cloud.gcp.core.enabled: false
management.metrics.export.stackdriver.enabled: false

management won't respect spring.cloud.gcp.core.enabled: false we also need to provide management.metrics.export.stackdriver.enabled: false which is redundant.

Context: I want to disable GCP features when running server on local laptop.

# disable GCP for local dev
spring.cloud.gcp.core.enabled: false
management.metrics.export.stackdriver.enabled: false

are there any tricks to disable spring.cloud.gcp during development(gradle bootRun) ? I have this in application-production.yml

spring.cloud.gcp.core.enabled: true
spring.cloud.gcp.metrics.enabled: true
management.metrics.export.stackdriver.enabled: true
management.metrics.export.stackdriver.step: 5s

Schema evolution in streaming Dataflow jobs and BigQuery tables, part 3 · robertsahlin.com

This is an enlightening article for me. I was debating myself, whether to use avro or protobuf for my dataflow pipeline.

I decided to follow your option of protobuf. I am also planing to implement generic field-level encryption/description ParDo using proto annotations.

Did you explore newly added GCP schema registry? https://cloud.google.com/pubsub/docs/schemas
