It's a typo on my end. It should say "trial" not "mytrial". Thanks for pointing it out. I fixed it

PR opened rake-compiler/rake-compiler-dock

add support for ruby 3.0.0 preview1

I'd like to ship a Nokogiri release candidate with Ruby 3.0 support, and these are the changes that were necessary to do that:

  • lock to the versions of rake-compiler and hoe for which we have patches
  • rvm install ruby 2.7.0 in order to build ruby 3.0.0-preview1 (because 2.5.7 results in ruby2_keywords errors)

Additionally this patch set adds:

  • a build:mri multitask
  • optional setting of the Dockerhub username via DOCKERHUB_USER env var

I'm not at all saying this should be merged! But I wanted a public record of what I did in case that makes it easier to add Ruby 3.0 "final" support.

mysql2.so doesn't link to proper libruby

I bumped into this problem a day or two ago while setting up an old Rails app with rvm.

I was able to work around it by temporarily denying access to the system ruby lib to the user who was using rvm, eg:

# as root
setfacl -m u:foo:--- /usr/lib64/libruby.so.2.6

# the user installs mysql2 in rvm, then as root again:

setfacl -x u:foo /usr/lib64/libruby.so.2.6

Support for DB on SYSTEM time zone and client on different time zone?

(If there's a mailing list or somewhere else that I should be asking this instead of here, I'm sorry, please let me know, and I'll ask there instead.)

Is it possible to write and read Time objects with time zones, to and from DATETIME and TIMESTAMP DB types, when the client is running on a machine in one time zone, the DB is running on a machine in a different time zone, and the DB is configured to use the SYSTEM time zone?

For example, say the client runs on a machine where the time zone is America/Chicago (currently -06:00), the DB runs on a machine where the time zone is America/Los_Angeles (currently -08:00), and the DB's configured time zone is SYSTEM:

MariaDB [test]> SHOW GLOBAL VARIABLES LIKE 'time_zone';
+---------------+--------+
| Variable_name | Value |
+---------------+--------+
| time_zone | SYSTEM |
+---------------+--------+
1 row in set (0.001 sec)

I think the answer is no since :database_timezone and :application_timezone can only take on the values :local and :utc, but I wanted to ask to be sure. I think the value :local for :database_timezone in Mysql2 means the local time of the client, not the DB. I think what I want is for it to be possible to set :database_timezone to a named time zone; in the example given, that would be the string America/Los_Angeles. On a related note, support for setting :application_timezone to a named time zone would also be nice, but for me it isn't strictly necessary since I can just set it to :utc and convert it to the time zone I need in my application.

This came up in the context of trying to use Mysql2 with Sequel, and based on the DATETIME/TIMESTAMP when DB time zone is SYSTEM and uses DST? Google Group conversation, it seems that what I'd like to do is not possible with the Mysql2 Sequel adapter because of how Mysql2 currently works.

Thank you!

Same issue! The image for the trial-app is failing to be pulled either. I don't think there's any solution other than the instructor fixing the images URLs.
