Cannot earn passes on hCaptcha Privacy Pass web page

@durch Do you have any update? I think it's better if we can document the Privacy Pass protocol on hCaptcha tokens in both the issuance stage and redemption stage, so that I can help debug it when there is an issue next time.

@levicki

This is getting ridiculous -- spending hCaptcha tokens to earn CloudFlare tokens doesn't make sense. Yes, this doesn't make sense and we have a plan to fix this issue soon. However, this is not related to the issue since this issue is about the hCaptcha captchas outside the Cloudflare pages like

I cannot reproduce this one yet. Does it happen all the time or only sometimes?

It seems like hCaptcha just added the json body to their checkcaptcha request. Previously, it has no body and we sent the blinded tokens as a post param in the body of such request.

My previous comment as quoted above may be wrong. I just noticed that with the extension installed the browser sends 2 checkcaptcha requests instead of 1 request: one is for sending the captcha answer and one is for issuing the passes.

I'm not sure why hCaptcha really needs 2 requests in this case. The protocol should have only one request.

I think it's good to document the protocol for hCaptcha somewhere

@gmt2001 I tried many times until I can get passes. I think I'm going to make it always work before marking this issue as resolved.

I'm contacting hCaptcha now. Please also let me know if hCaptcha is also reading this comment

Brave Browser Privacy Pass not work anymore

Brave Browser Privacy Pass not work anymore

@BTCAlchemist I think this is known. The extension should work only on the "On all sites" option because the extension doesn't read/hook the requests only on the domain you visit, it also needs to read/hook the requests for other domains from the page as well (for example, hcaptcha.com request to fetch/resolve the captcha)

@BTCAlchemist It doesn't work at all or it doesn't work sometimes? I tried that website already and it works totally fine for me. Can you clear all passes first and try again?

Brave Browser Privacy Pass not work anymore

@BTCAlchemist We have updated the new version 2.0.9 and it solved the issue on hCaptcha tokens. It now works on the challenge in the home page of hCaptcha https://www.hcaptcha.com/ , but it doesn't work on https://www.tokyobitcoiner.com/hcaptcha

I'm thinking that maybe tokyobitcoiner has some specific configuration?

Can you please try it out in other websites as well and inform us if there is still a problem?

Additional context Add any other context about the problem here.

There is one web site, which migrated to use hCaptcha at the end of year 2020. At the first a few months, I installed Privacy Pass extension for Chrome, it worked. However, until rather recently, with the latest version of Chrome Version 89.0.4389.114 (Official Build) (64-bit) and Fire-Fox Version 87.0 (64-bit). Privacy Pass extension version 2.0.8 stops working any more. Usually, the first time, when I visit the underlying web site, I have to solve the captcha, then I can get 5 passes, then after exactly 2 hours, the first pass expired; I can simply click on “I am human” button to extend captcha-free time for another 2 hours. But with the current browsers’ version and current version of privacy pass extension, after 2 hours, I have to manually solve the captcha again. Please check to verify if you can reproduce the issue. By the way, if I want to change the extension, now I can get 2.7.0.zip file, so after 2 hours, I want to automatically click on “I am human” button. Let me know if it is possible, if yes, give me some general idea how, and provide some guide or reference url. Thanks,
