stdenv.lib is depreciated!

Hey,

Just wanted to quickly point out that currently this does not build on the current nixos-unstable-small branch, due to the use of stdenv.lib in several locations. This has been depreciated for quite some time, and no longer exists in the latest builds (if it's not already in unstable, it will be soon). It should be fairly trivial to fix, given that the lib input has already seen use alongside it's depreciated alias.

firefox-nightly double icon + firefox-beta -> Wrong icon

Firstly, I would like to thank you for creating this overlay and reducing the time/effort we have to spend for us to install Firefox nightly on NixOS!

Secondly, I'd like to enlighten you about several issues that I have been facing while using this overlay.

Issues

Firefox Nightly:

  1. The icon shown under Gnome application menu is labelled as "Firefox" and when launched from Gnome taskbar another firefox-nightly is created with the label "Nightly" in the non-pinned applications area. image

  2. Right-click menu for the "Firefox" icon does not have an alternative for launching a "Private Window". image

I installed Firefox Beta to check whether the icon work and apparently the icon Firefox-beta uses is the same as Firefox-nightly whereas the icon seems to be working as expected.

Steps to replicate the process

  1. Use the following import as a nixpkg-overlay:
import (builtins.fetchTarball {
 url = https://github.com/mozilla/nixpkgs-mozilla/archive/master.tar.gz;
})
  1. Add latest.firefox-nightly-bin to either configuration.nix or home.nix. a.Tried both and both packages were the same even after using sudo nix-collect-garbage -d.

XPS 13 9370 Battery Drain

Does anyone know how to check if deep sleep is properly being forced on the XPS 9370? I'm seeing large battery drains while it's suspended again, and it resumes from suspend faster than I remember when I first enabled this "Fix".

Thanks.

(This was about a different MSR controlled behavior than the one that those two tools handle. But it's probably a safety mechanism and I no longer have that laptop, so we can leave this closed.)

Oh never mind, there's still the thing with the graphics card. Yeah I'll get back to it unless someone else picks it up first.

Yeah, the package upgrade isn't there anymore, I haven't looked in-depth at the other changes, and changes since, but a quick glance sees nothing wrong.

Nixos-rebuild fails after adding this

When following the README to add this repo as a channel, I get the following error at the next nixos-rebuild switch:

This is consistently the case for me. It does not seem to happen, if I add the channel with a name not starting with nixos

Nixos-rebuild fails after adding this

I think the default sudo should work. There must be something else wrong. Closing this for now. I currently don't see what we can fix from nixos-hardware perspective.

dell xps: consider enabling AC power supply "fix"

I'm not fully sure of all of the implications, but the last cause of problems with CPU scaling on my XPS 13 9370 was tracked down to weird combinations of my USB Type C Hub and various Type C power supplies that I have around.

Using msr-tools and executing sudo wrmsr -a 0x1FC 2 "fixes" this problem.

I don't fully understand the implications of this, so I'm not going to send a PR right away, but I thought I'd offer it for consideration (and as a potential warning to others in the future).

Also, in the interest of potentially helping other XPS users, the Nov 2018 firmware update has been a big improvement to performance and consistency.

We have both throttled and thermald. 13-9370 profile also enables it.

Repository should be linked from the NixOS manual

At least, assuming it's generally valuable.

I had no idea this existed, and just ran into it by accident. For bonus points, have nixos-generate-config propose the profile addition.
